Amid a strategic regional expansion effort, Stevens & Lee is acquiring Chatham-based business law firm Brown, Moskowitz & Kallen PC.
For Stevens & Lee, it marks the fourth merger since June 1. Along with boosting its New Jersey presence by adding three lawyers from Elmwood Park-based Satz Law Group LLC, Stevens & Lee entered New England with 16 lawyers from Providence-headquartered Duffy & Sweeney Ltd.
The Berks County, Pa., firm also grew to the western part of the Keystone State, following the launch of an office helmed by former Pittsburgh Penguins executive Kevin Acklin.
Under the agreement announced Aug. 4 with Brown, Moskowitz & Kallen, Stevens & Lee will open its third location in New Jersey and 18th overall.
An eight-attorney firm serving privately held businesses for the last 25-plus years, Brown, Moskowitz & Kallen provides counsel for every stage of the business life cycle, from formation through growth to exit. The firm’s litigators also represent clients in a wide range of commercial and other disputes.
Brown, Moskowitz & Kallen co-founder and partner Kenneth Moskowitz said, “Joining Stevens & Lee is a natural ‘next step’ in our firm’s trajectory, supplementing our litigation capabilities with a bench 60-attorneys deep and adding bandwidth to support clients in M&A and corporate and commercial real estate matters. The opportunities for long-term growth for our clients and our team here in Chatham are very exciting.”
A full-service firm with more than 200 lawyers, Stevens & Lee brings experience in labor and employment, employee benefits, intellectual property, immigration, tax and health care to supplement Brown, Moskowitz & Kallen’s core corporate, litigation and real estate services.
Stevens & Lee President and CEO William Thornton Jr. said Brown, Moskowitz & Kallen’s strong and deep relationships with the metropolitan region’s business community and legal talent make it a natural fit for his firm.
“Stuart Brown, Kenneth Moskowitz, Norman Kallen and Keith Marlowe, together with their talented team of lawyers, serve as trusted advisors to middle-market clients in New Jersey and New York. They understand their clients’ businesses and industries and are committed to relationship-driven service at the highest level,” he said.
Brown, Moskowitz & Kallen co-founder and managing partner Stuart Brown added, “Our focus has always been on providing business owners with the advice and service they need to achieve their objectives. Working closely with clients as a team of professional advisors is what we do best, and this approach has allowed us to help some of our region’s top businesses tackle complex issues, execute strategic plans and drive entity growth.”
