New Jersey’s legal market demonstrates concentration among firms, with Lowenstein Sandler LLP leading with 199 attorneys in the state. The Roseland-based firm, established in 1961, employs 70 associates and 46 of counsel attorneys alongside 83 partners.

Chiesa Shahinian & Giantomasi PC (CSG Law) ranks second with 187 attorneys, while McCarter & English LLP holds the third position with 169 attorneys. McCarter & English expanded in October 2024 by acquiring Connecticut-based Harrington & Smith, adding three partners, three associates and five professional staff members.

The data reveals firms operate from various locations throughout New Jersey. Roseland hosts four firms in the top 25, including Lowenstein Sandler, Chiesa Shahinian & Giantomasi, Connell Foley and Mandelbaum Barrett. Princeton serves as headquarters for six firms, while Newark houses five firms’ bases among the rankings.

Several firms announced relocations during 2024 and 2025. Riker Danzig LLP moved from Morristown to Madison in July 2025, while Saiber LLC plans to relocate to Madison in August 2025. Kelley Drye & Warren LLP announced its relocation from Parsippany to Giralda Farms in February 2025.

The market includes both established firms and recent formations. McCarter & English dates to 1844, while newer entrants like Goldberg Segalla began operations in 2001. Partnership structures vary, with some firms maintaining traditional partner-associate models while others incorporate of counsel positions.

The rankings reflect attorney counts specifically within New Jersey, not total firm employment across all locations.
