Leaders from New Jersey City University () and the Hudson County Latin American Chamber of Commerce (HCLACC) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding.

The MOU formalizes a strategic partnership between the two organizations. NJCU and HCLACC say the collaboration aims to foster international connections, boost the local economy and enhance educational opportunities for students. According to officials, the agreement sets the stage for a series of initiatives to bridge the gap between academia and the international business community.

A key feature of the partnership includes an international business expo. Slated for September 2025, the inaugural Latino International Business Expo will showcase global business opportunities and more. Other highlights of the partnership also include specialized education programs, student internships and mentorship programs.

NJCU interim President Andres Acebo said the partnership represents a strategic step forward “in our efforts to foster community connections, support our local economy, and create meaningful opportunities for our students.”

“We are building bridges that leverage the strength of our community’s diversity and connecting them to global perspectives and real-world experiences while enhancing the economic and cultural vitality of our community,” Acebo added.

HCLACC President Heidi Castrillon said the collaboration will not only elevate local Latino businesses, “but also position Hudson County as a hub for international trade and cultural exchange.”

“This partnership will open doors to global opportunities for students, entrepreneurs, and our entire community – driving innovation and economic development in ways that align with both state and federal objectives,” Castrillon said.

Added Acebo, “This collaboration is a powerful example of how mission-driven and community anchored institutions of higher learning and local businesses can work hand-in-hand to empower people and make a lasting impact.”
