An example of the type of major projects Paladino is spearheading includes the $750 million Jack and Sheryl Morris Cancer Center in New Brunswick, which is slated to open in early 2025. This year has marked the continued momentum of another big project DEVCO is leading – the HELIX Health + Life Sciences Exchange, a dynamic innovation district under development on a 4-acre site in downtown New Brunswick, with more funding and approvals secured in 2023.
“We are establishing the only ecosystem in the country where academic researchers, private sector researchers, entrepreneurs, medical students, and educators will co-locate in an environment of discovery and collaboration – where creative collisions can occur,” Palladino said in May when DEVCO and SJP Properties announced plans to develop the second phase of HELIX.
DEVCO is also overseeing the $49 million makeover of the New Brunswick Train Station – just across the street from the HELIX project. “Modernization of the New Brunswick Train Station will energize the transformative development taking place directly adjacent to the Northeast Corridor, making the N.J. Innovation HUB and Rutgers Cancer Institute accessible to researchers, patients, employees, and visitors from Boston to Washington, D.C.,” Paladino said.
