Ocean State Job Lot adding 2nd Monmouth County store

Discount retail chain Ocean State Job Lot plans to open its eighth store in New Jersey.
Located at 2145 Route 35 in Holmdel, the 37,020-square-foot location is expected by early fall, the company announced in a March 28 press release.
In Holmdel, Ocean State Job Lot will take space left vacant after Stein Mart filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in August 2020 and closed all of its 279 stores nationwide.
Founded in 1977, Rhode Island-based Ocean State Job Lot sells an ever-changing array of brand-name, first-quality merchandise at closeout prices, such as household goods, apparel, pet supplies, seasonal products, kitchen pantry staples and specialty foods.
Considered the Northeast’s largest, privately held discount retailer, Ocean State Job Lot has more than 150 stores across the region, employs 5,600 associates and generates annual sales exceeding $800 million, the company said.
Staffing up
Within New Jersey, Ocean State Job Lot has stores in Clinton, Deptford, Franklin Park, Princeton, South Plainfield and Sparta. Joining Freehold, Holmdel is the chain’s second store in Monmouth County.
It’s also located about 10 miles from a Shrewsbury Ocean State Job Lot that shuttered in 2019 after the company was reportedly unable to secure a lease-extension agreement.
Ocean State Job Lot Regional Director James Hines said in a statement, “We are so pleased to return to Monmouth County with this newest store. We are always proud to have the opportunity to breathe new life into vacant spaces and look forward to welcoming shoppers into a big and bright Ocean State Job Lot.”
The new store will soon begin hiring for various positions, including store leadership, supervisory and full- and part-time associates.
