Trenton-based TerraCycle marked a milestone Oct. 8 underscoring the company’s continued growth in the state capital.
Under clear blue skies, founder and CEO Tom Szaky led a dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday for The Dr. Ernel Simpson Research & Development Center. Trenton Mayor Reed Gusciora and Greater Trenton CEO George Sowa joined Szaky, as did the state-of-the-art research & development facility’s namesake, Executive Vice President of R&D and Technical Innovation Ernel Simpson, as well as the TerraCycle team.
The innovative waste management company TerraCycle specializes in “Recycling the Unrecyclable.” Working to advance a circular economy, TerraCycle collects, recycles, reuses and innovates with trash. Simpson boasts one of the company’s longest employee tenures at nearly 15 years. His work has created solutions to extend the life of materials found in refuse including diapers, juice pouches and cigarette butts.
“We’ve been here in Trenton, New Jersey, closing in on 20 years now, continuing to grow,” said Szaky. “This is our 22nd year of operation—and very happy to say, our 22nd year of consecutive corporate growth, which is in big part thanks to everyone here, all of our colleagues around the world in 20 countries, and to the support we’ve had from all the great folks here in Trenton.
“Were very proud to not just be headquartered here and a global company, but to stay headquartered here and continue to grow,” Szaky added.
