Quest Diagnostics completed its acquisition of select assets from Cleveland-headquartered University Hospitals’ outreach laboratory business.

The Secaucus-based testing provider announced the deal’s close in a Jan. 27 press release. According to the company, the transaction will increase access to its test menu, network of patient access sites and broad health plan coverage.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

For University Hospitals’ providers and patients using Quest for lab services, Quest’s laboratories in Twinsburg, Ohio, and Pittsburgh, Pa., will perform the testing.

University Hospitals will continue to provide all inpatient and select outpatient testing from its hospital-based labs, according to the agreement.

Quest President and CEO Jim Davis commented, “Top health systems like University Hospitals are transitioning their laboratory services to Quest in order to improve operating efficiency and ensure continued access to affordable care.”

University Hospitals CEO Dr. Cliff Megerian added, “Laboratory testing is a critical and increasingly complex area of health care and Quest is a trusted name in laboratory services known for high quality and innovation. We look forward to a collaboration with Quest that will maintain streamlined and efficient operations, quality and breadth of menu while enhancing access for our patients.”

Over the past year, Quest has finalized similar transactions with other nonprofit health systems in the Midwest, such as Allina Health in Minneapolis and OhioHealth in Columbus.
