As part of an ongoing turnaround effort, is reducing its footprint in New Jersey.

After closing its Rockaway location in November 2025, the Colorado-based chain expects to shutter its outpost by Jan. 25, according to a media representative.

Founded in 1969, the brand is known for its gourmet burgers, bottomless fries and family-friendly atmosphere. It has roughly 500 restaurants across the U.S. and Canada.

In February 2025, Red Robin announced plans to wind down up to 70 underperforming locations over the next five years in an effort to improve profitability and reduce debt. However, that total could be less if business improves, the company has said.

Several other full-service and casual-dining brands, such as Denny’s, Outback Steakhouse and Red Lobster, are trimming their footprints in response to rising costs, shifting consumer preferences and traffic declines.

According to a Red Robin spokesperson, leases concluded for its restaurants at Rockaway Townsquare mall in Rockaway and La Quinta Suites in Clifton.

Red Robin will continue operating locally in Brick, Cherry Hill, Deptford, Hamilton, Mays Landing, South Plainfield and Vineland, according to its website.

“We’ve enjoyed being part of the local community and look forward to continuing to serve guests at our other New Jersey-based restaurants,” the media rep said.
