Bahama Breeze to close last restaurant in NJ

Casual dining chain ‘s remaining location in New Jersey is shutting down for good.

According to the Darden -owned brand, its restaurant at in Cherry Hill is among the Bahama Breeze sites nationwide that will wind down by April 5.

In a Feb. 3 press release, Darden said its decision followed a review of Bahama Breeze’s brand positioning and strategic potential.

After considering sale of the chain, the company said it will permanently close 14 Bahama Breeze outposts. Besides the remaining site in New Jersey, locations in North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Florida, Georgia and Delaware will also go dark.

Additionally, the operator said it will convert 15 other Bahama Breeze restaurants across Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia into different Darden brands. It will work to do so over the next 12–18 months.

The Orlando, Fla.-headquartered group’s portfolio includes , LongHorn Steakhouse, Yard House, The Capital Grille, Seasons 52, Eddie V’s Prime Seafood and Ruth’s Chris Steak House.

Darden did not yet disclose the specific brands it will transform the select Bahama Breeze restaurants into. The company also said it will try to place as many impacted workers as it can in other roles in its portfolio.

Founded in 1996, Bahama Breeze is known for its Caribbean-inspired food and tropical cocktails.

It has consistently lagged behind Darden’s other stronger performing core brands, like Olive Garden and LongHorn, Restaurant Business noted. In 2024, Bahama Breeze posted about $246.7 million in U.S. sales. The figure represented a nearly 8% decline from the prior year.

This week’s announcement comes about nine months after the brand abruptly closed 15 underperforming locations nationwide. That includes four sites in New Jersey: Paramus, Toms River, Wayne and Woodbridge.
