The 47-year-old has been a deputy treasurer and a policy adviser to three governors before being nominated to head the treasury by Gov. Jon S. Corzine in January.
Rousseau, who served as deputy state treasurer from 2002 until 2006, worked in the treasurerÂs office during the Corzine, Richard Codey and Jim McGreevey administrations. He has worked closely with governors and treasurers in developing and implementing annual state budgets.
Rousseau said he would do his part to Âensure that the stateÂs finances and spending are fundamentally sound and serve the best interest of the taxpayers. He replaces Bradley I. Abelow, who became the governorÂs chief of staff last September. Rousseau received a bachelorÂs degree from Temple University where he graduated cum laude and he holds an MBA from Rider University, according to the treasurerÂs office. He lives in Hamilton with his wife and two children.
