Rutgers launches Scarlet Knight Enterprises board

Scarlet Knight Enterprises has finalized its inaugural board of directors, assembling a group of sports, media and business leaders to help guide the newly formed entity as Rutgers continues its push to modernize and grow its athletics revenue model amid sweeping changes in college sports.

Oliver Luck chairs the seven-member board in an advisory role. He works closely with Rutgers Athletics leadership to identify new opportunities across corporate partnerships, multimedia rights, ticketing strategy and name, image and likeness initiatives.

The announcement follows the launch of Scarlet Knight Enterprises last month, as NJBIZ reported. Rutgers created the outlet to centralize and expand the athletic department’s business operations.

The Board of Directors:

  • Finn Wentworth, sports and media executive; co-founder of YES Network and former president, YankeeNets
  • Michael Flaherty, vice president/general manager, Nike Basketball – North America
  • Kathryn Tappen, NBC Sports broadcaster; Rutgers alumna
  • Keli Zinn, director of athletics, Rutgers
  • Amy Towers, chairwoman, Rutgers board of governors
  • Kimberly Lewis, executive vice president and chief administration officer, Rutgers

Rutgers Director of Athletics Keli Zinn emphasized the strategic importance of the group’s experience. “The collective experience of this board is truly exceptional,” she said. “Their expertise in revenue generation, media, branding and partnership development will be instrumental in creating new resources that drive the future of Rutgers Athletics.”

Luck said the board is aligned around helping Rutgers compete more aggressively in the changing marketplace.

“This group brings together accomplished leaders to form a dynamic advisory board focused on pushing Rutgers Athletics forward,” he said. “There is a strong sense of excitement within this group to help Rutgers chart a new path and create cutting edge opportunities that shape the future of .”

The board’s formation comes as Rutgers looks to strengthen its financial footing as well as generate new revenue streams. The moves also build on a broader strategy to consolidate key commercial functions, such as , and opportunities, under a single entity.

Scarlet Knight Enterprises says it aims to position Rutgers more competitively within the and nationally. The organization plans to adopt a more business-driven approach to college athletics. That work will include expanding partnerships along with delivering new digital, broadcast and live-event experiences.
