The LPGA Cognizant Founders Cup, which tees off May 12 at Upper Montclair Country Club in Clifton, announced RWJBarnabas Health as the Official Healthcare Provider of the 2022 tournament.

The event runs through May 15 at the historic venue and features some of the top women golfers from around the world.

As part of the partnership, RWJBarnabas Health is responsible for all on-site Emergency Medical Services throughout the tournament week, with special attention being given to melanoma awareness, with signage across the  venue.

It is the second straight year that RWJBarnabas is serving in this role. The 2021 Cognizant Founders Cup was played last October at Mountain Ridge Country Club in West Caldwell. The event is among the most prestigious events on the LPGA tour, which pays tribute to its 13 founding members.

“RWJBarnabas is the premier health care system in New Jersey and their support of this event greatly helps our mission to continue engaging, empowering, and supporting girls and women through this great sport,” said Tracy Hupko, sales and marketing manager, Cognizant Founders Cup.

The spring dates of this year’s tournament offered ideal timing to help promote melanoma awareness, and the important of preventative measures.

“As tens of thousands of attendees, many from the surrounding communities, come out to enjoy the best professional golfers in the world this week at Upper Montclair CC, we see a tremendous opportunity to educate them on melanoma awareness, while sharing preventative measures to stay safe from the sun,” said Dr. Franz Smith, northern lead for the melanoma and soft tissue oncology program and medical director of the Melanoma Center at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center.

The tournament will be profiled in the upcoming May 16 edition of NJBIZ.
