In a bit of musical chairs, Electronics America will move its headquarters to a building Unilever just announced it’ll exit.

Following news from the consumer goods giant earlier this week it will bring its base to Hoboken, Samsung is set to occupy space at 700 Sylvan Ave. in Englewood Cliffs. NorthJersey.com was the first to report the news, which Samsung confirmed to NJBIZ Aug. 29.

“Samsung Electronics America will be relocating its North American headquarters from Ridgefield Park, N.J., to Englewood Cliffs, N.J., in the Summer of 2025,” a Samsung spokesperson commented to NJBIZ. “The move marks an exciting new chapter and we are proud to continue to operate in Bergen County, N.J.”

Samsung did not respond to queries as to the number of employees who will occupy it or the square footage of the new space.

The electronics maker will move within Bergen County from 85 Challenger Road in Ridgefield Park, which it has occupied since 2010. The company renewed its approximately 235,000-square-foot lease at the property in 2019, when Englewood-based The KABR Group owned the building. Samsung has been located in the larger Overpeck Corporate Center since 1991.

In 2020, KABR sold 85 Challenger Road to Korea-based Asia Investment Management Inc. (AIM).

Both Samsung and Unilever’s impending moves highlight continuing shifts in the office sector and how we work.

The latter joins companies, including Hain Celestial, along the New Jersey Gold Coast in a walkable, bustling location. Like Hoboken, nearby Jersey City has seen office sector success, too, including with Bank of America’s 550,000-square-foot, full-building lease at Newport Tower.

Meanwhile, Samsung’s move underscores the appeal of updated spaces in accessible areas. In 2018, Unilever unveiled the “workplace of the future” at 700 Sylvan Ave.
