The basics:

• Innovation Hub to open at Seton Hall University Walsh Library

Seton Hall University will add a new Innovation Hub at Walsh Library to expand access to emerging tech and foster hands-on learning opportunities.

Located on the ground floor within the Teaching, Learning and Technology Center at the building at 400 S. Orange Ave. in South Orange, the updates are possible thanks to a $1.25 million state appropriation along with additional investments from SHU, according to the university’s May 5 announcement.

Seton Hall said it contracted with KSS Architects on the project design. Construction will begin in May, according to the school, with minimal disruption expected. The collaboration is just the latest for the partners. Other major capital improvement projects KSS has worked on for SHU include Bethany Hall, Mike Sheppard, Sr. Stadium at Owen T. Carroll Field, and upgrades to the Richie Regan Recreation and Athletic Center and Walsh Gymnasium.

The Innovation Hub will feature a glass-walled entry along Seton Drive. Inside, an open staircase will connect the space to the second floor, offering visibility and underscoring efforts to make its tech accessible. Inside, the new space will include:

• Open study lounge
• Technology consultation rooms
• Maker Studio for hands-on projects
• XR/AI Studio for exploratory learning
• Dedicated content creation spaces, including a recording studio as well as three podcast studios
• Laptop and software support, moving from Corrigan Hall to this more-central location

Opened in 1994, the reimagined space within Walsh Library will offer students access to specialized tools that support creative exploration, academic research and career-ready skills, according to SHU. For faculty and administrators, the upgrades will offer opportunities to integrate emerging tech into teaching and curricula.

Constructing ‘a catalyst’

Seton Hall President Monsignor Joseph Reilly said the work reflects the school’s commitment to empowering students and faculty “to think creatively, explore fearlessly and lead with innovation. This dynamic space will not only enhance teaching and learning but also inspire collaboration and discovery across disciplines.”

Provost and Senior Executive Vice President Katia Passerini described the forthcoming hub as “more than just space — it’s a catalyst for collaboration, creativity and academic transformation.”

During renovation, the Walsh Gallery and Archives and Collections will remain open. Members will retain full access to Walsh Library via the second-floor rotunda entrance, using the staircase or the accessible ramp located near Dunkin’ and Mooney Hall. Additionally, a door will be open closest to the Walsh Gallery and Archives and Special Collections through the portico by the parking garage.
