ShopRite continued its decades-long tradition of supporting women’s golf and giving back to community-based organizations at this year’s ShopRite LPGA Classic Presented by Acer – donating a record $1.8 million to food banks, hospitals, education and youth programs and other community champions at its annual charity luncheon, held June 6, 2025. Ahead of the 2025 ShopRite LPGA Classic in Galloway, the Wakefern Food Corp.-owned supermarket banner donated a record $1.8 million to nearly 50 nonprofit organizations.
During a June 6 charitable luncheon, the grocery store awarded grants to help area hospitals, food banks, education groups and youth programs continue their outreach efforts across the region.
Karen Meleta, Keasbey-based Wakefern’s chief communications officer, described the luncheon as “one of the most meaningful traditions” of the company’s longstanding LPGA partnership because it provides an opportunity “to celebrate the people and organizations driving positive change across our communities.”
“We donated a record $1.8 million in 2025 and nearly $45 million through our support of the LPGA over the years – funding that has been a game changer for so many organizations doing good in the community,” she said.
Considered the area’s largest sporting event, the ShopRite LPGA Classic ran from June 6–8 at Seaview Bay Course and featured 144 of the world’s best professional women golfers.
The ShopRite LPGA Classic is also one of the LPGA Tour‘s longest running events. For three decades, golf fans from across the Northeast have converged upon the Jersey Shore to watch players compete on the famed waterfront course. Besides hosting one of the strongest fields in women’s golf, the tournament creates more than $19 million in economic activity in the region each year, according to ShopRite.
This year, major champion Jennifer Kupcho won her fourth LPGA Tour event with a birdie on the final hole in a field.
As part of an expanded, multiyear partnership between ShopRite and the LPGA, the 2025 tournament introduced several new initiatives aimed at supporting athletes and communities through sports and education.
Those efforts include a program to support and sponsor five deserving golfers as they chase their dreams on the LPGA circuit and college scholarships for high school athletes involved with nonprofit First Tee.
ShopRite also partnered with Colgate-Palmolive to present a June 6 dental care clinic that provided free dental care and education to 142 local children. They were able to meet LPGA players, too.
Wakefern President Mike Stigers said, “We want to create a lasting impact by giving back to the community and supporting women’s sports. The ShopRite LPGA Classic is the perfect platform for us to do that, and we are so excited to expand our partnership to make this premiere event even better with new initiatives and new ways to support the athletes and the community.”
Jeremy Friedman, media director for the ShopRite LPGA Classic, added, “We believe in the power of sport to create positive change, and ShopRite and Wakefern’s unwavering support plays a crucial role in our mission to give back. We’re proud to partner with them as the longest-standing title sponsor on the LPGA Tour.”
