With a goal of doubling operations next year, Asbury Park-based Solar Landscape plans to hire more than 100 employees in 2024.
The new positions will span engineering, business development, finance, legal, community engagement and project management, the company said.
Solar Landscape CEO and co-founder Shaun Keegan made the announcement Nov. 6 at company headquarters along with Sen. Vin Gopal, D-11th District, and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local Union 400 Business Manager Rob Shimko.
At the same time, the company also announced that it is now the leading provider of community solar to lower-income households, according to Groundswell, a program funded by the U.S. Department of Energy.
This news follows the Nov. 1 declaration by U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone Jr., D-6th District, that – with the powering up of a Solar Landscape project in Avenel – New Jersey is now home to the largest number of community solar projects for low- and moderate-income families in the U.S.
Community solar projects – made possible by the now-permanent Community Solar Energy Program – allow residents access to solar energy, regardless of their living situation.
“I applaud Sen. Gopal’s leadership in bringing jobs and clean energy to his district and Solar Landscape’s innovative business model; together, they are truly powering Monmouth County,” Gov. Phil Murphy said in a statement following Solar Landscape’s hiring news. “With community solar, New Jersey continues to make history in how America generates energy. We are leading the way in providing affordable clean energy to underserved communities and driving the economy at the same time.”
In February, the governor detailed six steps the Garden State would take to battle climate change, including an accelerated target of 100% clean energy by 2035 through sources such as solar power.
“It is encouraging to watch a Monmouth County business grow from a small operation founded by Monmouth County locals to a national leader in clean energy,” Gopal said. “Solar Landscape’s rise to prominence is a great example of how our area can drive economic growth that creates jobs and leads the nation. I’m proud to have worked with their leadership and will continue to support their success.”
The company said it has grown threefold in two years and hired 80 people since January 2021. This spring, it moved to a new 8,000-square-foot office space.
Information about the new positions opening in 2024 will be available here.
To date, the company has energized 50 community solar projects totaling over 60 megawatts that will serve nearly 10,000 households, more than half of which will qualify as low- or moderate-income.
Keegan thanked Gopal for his support of solar efforts, adding, “Growing solar nationally means creating new jobs in New Jersey. We look forward to welcoming even more Solar Landscape employees next year as commercial rooftop and community solar continue to build momentum.”
The state took a hit in its climate-change efforts this week, with energy company Ørsted’s cancellation of the Ocean Wind 1 and 2 offshore wind projects. However, Murphy has vowed to continue pressing forward with the state’s ambitious clean-energy goals.
