South Jersey Behavioral Health Resources (SJBHR) announced that an investigation determined unauthorized access to certain of its servers in April.

Announcing the incident June 4, the Pennsauken-based behavioral health agency said it immediately launched an investigation, with the assistance of third-party forensic specialists, after discovering encrypted files on certain computer systems. That investigation sought to determine the nature and scope of the activity.

While the investigation remains ongoing, it did reveal the beginning of the unauthorized activity on April 3, 2023.

SJBHR says it is unaware if any data related to individuals was subject to unauthorized access and/or acquisition.

The nonprofit affiliate of Inperium said it is providing the notification about the event out of an abundance of caution since the types of personal information it maintains on its system are sensitive, such as Social Security numbers, health insurance details, medical information and more.

However, SJBHR has seen no evidence of misuse of any information related to this incident.

The organization added that upon discovery of the breach, and in addition to commencing the investigation, it also reported the incident to law enforcement, and is taking steps to implement additional safeguards and reviewing data privacy and security policies and procedures.

The company is also urging individuals to remain vigilant about any potential suspicious activity. More information on the data privacy event can be found here.
