Summit Health appointed Amy Smith, a 25-year human resources veteran, as chief people officer.  

Smith has extensive experience in culture building, professional development, inclusion and team member experiences, according to an Aug. 24 announcement from the Berkeley Heights health care provider. 

Reporting to CEO Jeff Alter, Smith will oversee all aspects of the company’s people strategy, which includes attracting, retaining and developing talent, culture, experience, and diversity, equity and inclusion.

“I have seen first-hand the difference Amy can make in an organization and am excited to have her on-board to support our goal of collectively making one of the best places to work both regionally and nationally,” Alter said. 

David Diamond, Summit’s chief human resources officer, will remain in his role, reporting to Smith, and will be responsible for enterprise administration as well as the company’s HR functions, including talent acquisition, payroll, benefits and human resources information systems.  

Natalie Thigpen, senior vice president of culture, engagement, and DEI, also will report to Smith. 

Smith comes to Summit from Anthem Inc., where she was staff vice president for human resources. Before joining Anthem, she was vice president, implementation at ADP.  

She earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Georgia Southwestern State University and is an HRCI/SHRM Certified Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR).
