NJ job market improves, but gains are uneven

"Last April, our workers were in dire straits,” Labor Commissioner Robert Asaro-Angelo told the Assembly Budget Committee. “The unemployment rate was 7.7%, and our workforce was barely half of its pre-pandemic levels. Today, the rate is down to 4.2%." But with these accomplishments, there are challenges his department still faces.

Senate budget hearings continue with DCA, schools

Things got a little tense as Lt. Gov. Sheila Oliver, also commissioner of the Department of Community Affairs, was questioned by Sen. Michael Testa, R-1st District, regarding details for certain grants. After explaining the department often just administers such endowments, Testa pressed further, moving to affordable housing and asking why the spending proposal is light on information.
