Tinton Falls to buy Carney Farm for open space (updated)

Tinton Falls announced plans to purchase . The borough will preserve the historic 13-acre property for and future recreational use.

The Borough Council introduced the ordinance authorizing the $3 million purchase during its Feb. 17 meeting. The move is set to be formally adopted March 3.

The property is located at 1900 Wayside Road.

Under the agreement, Monmouth County’s Open Space Trust Fund will provide 75% of the funding ($2.25 million). The remaining 25% ($750,000) will come from the borough’s .

“This is a meaningful day for our community,” said Mayor Risa Clay. “Preserving Carney Farm protects the character of our neighborhood while creating lasting environmental and recreational benefits for our residents.”

Clay also thanked for its generous open space funding contribution, which she says made this acquisition achievable.

“Their commitment to preservation and environmental stewardship is instrumental in helping municipalities like ours protect valuable community assets,” said Clay in a letter to residents.

Carney family recognized

The Carney family will be recognized for their extraordinary community contribution at the March 3 meeting.

“We are deeply grateful to the Carney family for their partnership and for the legacy they are creating,” said Clay. She added the borough aims to ensure the property remains a neutral asset for the future. “Because of their generosity and stewardship, this land will continue to serve our community for generations.”

Mary Elizabeth Carney Quinn said, “On behalf of our family and with deep gratitude and pride, we entrust this cherished property to the community. It is our hope that the land will continue to serve as a source of purpose, connection, and opportunity for generations to come – just as it has for ours.”
