Triple-S Steel Holdings Inc. has acquired Camden Yards Steel Co., effective July 21.
Houston-based Triple-S – one of North America’s largest family-owned steel service center companies – announced the deal July 28.
Founded in 2002, Camden Yards Steel is a flat-rolled steel processor and distributor with facilities in Camden and Columbia, S.C. The company serves distributors and manufacturers throughout the eastern U.S. with hot rolled, cold rolled, coated sheet products and coil products.
According to its website, the company operates in Camden on the former New York Shipbuilding Co. site.
Mike Amato Jr. and Alex Kanoff will continue to lead Camden Yards Steel, according to Triple-S. Founder Mike Amato Sr. will remain active in the company in a senior role.
Triple-S Steel CEO Gary Stein said the company is “thrilled” to welcome the Camden Yards team, adding that it has known the firm as both partners and suppliers for many years.
“Camden has built an outstanding reputation in the flat-rolled steel market, and they do a great job,” Stein added. “This acquisition strengthens our ability to serve customers across the country while preserving the family-business culture that has made both of our companies successful.”
A company representative told NJBIZ about 40 Camden Yards Steel employees joined Triple-S.
“Joining Triple-S allows us to build on the foundation our fathers established while preserving the family-business culture that has always defined Camden Yards Steel,” said Amato Jr. “We are excited about the opportunities this partnership creates for our employees, customers, and suppliers.”
Brown Gibbons Lang & Co. announced Aug. 3 that its Metals & Advanced Metals Manufacturing investment banking team served as the exclusive financial advisor to Camden Yards Steel in the transaction. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
