After acquiring Di Bruno Bros. last fall, Wakefern Food Corp. is growing the Philadelphia-based gourmet food brand’s regional presence. The brand will roll out at several major retailers, such as ShopRite, Stop & Shop and Acme.
In a June 12 press release, the Keasbey-based retailer-owned cooperative said it will expand distribution of the label’s most popular products, including:
Select stores already carry Di Bruno’s selection of Italian cured meats. They also offer glazes, white truffle honey, tapenade, and roasted and stuffed peppers, according to Wakefern.
Founded in 1939 in the now-iconic South Philadelphia Italian Market, specialty food retailer Di Bruno Bros. imports Italian and European specialty groceries.
From handcrafted cheeses to authentic Italian snacks, Di Bruno Bros. offers a diverse range of specialty items. The offerings blend local and global culinary traditions, for retailers, food service operators and customers across the country.
Wakefern acquired the business in October 2024 for an undisclosed sum. As part of the agreement, expert cheesemonger and third-generation Di Bruno family member Emilio Mignucci came on board. Mignucci now serves as vice president of the Di Bruno Bros. brand.
The acquisition came about six months after Wakefern co-op member Brown’s Super Stores Inc. took over operations at Di Bruno Bros.’ five retail locations and bottle shop in the Philly region.
As the brand grows its regional footprint, Di Bruno Bros. is looking ahead to new product innovations in the areas of specialty cheeses and Italian-inspired provisions later this year, according to Wakefern.
Mignucci shared, “Di Bruno Bros. has spent over 80 years earning the trust and admiration of customers by offering bold, distinctive flavors and artisanal quality. What started as a small Philadelphia shop has grown into a beloved gourmet brand, and we’re thrilled to now share it with even more communities across the country.”
