Newsweek released its 2024 World’s Best Hospitals list Feb. 28, ranking 2,400 hospitals across 30 countries. While the top 250 did not highlight any New Jersey facilities, six appeared in the complete findings listed in the national breakdown. 

Now in its sixth year, World’s Best Hospitals – compiled in partnership with Statistica – is the publication’s longest-running list. The best hospital in the world, according to the rankings, is the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.

“Delivering best-in-class healthcare is a promise most hospitals offer, but only a few achieve true excellence,” Josh Smith, Newsweek’s director of growth and strategic partnerships, said in a statement accompanying the list. “Our ‘World’s Best Hospitals’ list is a guide for readers to identify the best healthcare facilities and providers for their specific needs.” 

Every hospital in each of the 30 countries was rated based on four data sources from a survey of more than 85,000 experts:

• Recommendations from medical professionals
• Patient satisfaction data
• Hospital quality metrics
• Patient-reported outcome

“With so much at stake for individuals and institutions, reliable data is key. The Newsweek-Statista rankings provide crucial insights for patients, families and health care executives looking for profiles of an industry that will generate $4.24 trillion worldwide in 2024,” added Nancy Cooper, Newsweek global editor in chief. 

The Garden State hospitals that landed in the United States’ breakdown of top health care facilities are:

• No. 47: Morristown Medical Center, Morristown | Atlantic Health System
• No. 58: Hackensack University Medical Center, Hackensack | Hackensack Meridian Health
• No. 137: The Valley Hospital, Ridgewood | Valley Health System
• No. 174: Overlook Medical Center, Summit | Atlantic Health System
• No. 329: Englewood Hospital and Medical Center, Englewood | Englewood Health
• No. 411: Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch | RWJBarnabas Health 

These six facilities also made last year’s list, along with Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, which was not included for 2024.

Staff kudos 

The Valley Hospital released a statement Wednesday, noting the facility landed in New Jersey’s top three.

“We are honored to be considered among the best hospitals in the world,” said Valley Health CEO Audrey Meyers. “This recognition is a testament to the innovative work of our doctors, nurses, and staff in delivering an exceptional patient experience.”
