American Water announced its chief executive will resume his post at the end of the month, following a recent injury and hospitalization.
Walter Lynch will be reinstated as CEO of American Water, effective Jan. 31, the board of directors of the Camden-based company announced Jan. 27.
“We are so pleased that Walter has recovered and is ready to return to his full duties as CEO of American Water,” said Karl Kurz, chairman of American Water’s board of directors. “I know Walter is excited to return next week and join American Water’s management team and all the employees of American Water as they continue to provide essential water and wastewater services across the U.S.”
American Water Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Susan Hardwick was appointed interim CEO on Dec. 8. At the time, the company described the move as part of its business continuity plan, and said it allowed Lynch time to focus on a full recovery.
The board’s action reinstating Lynch will see him assume all authority, duties and responsibilities as president and principal executive officer for the U.S.’s largest water and wastewater utility company. Hardwick, meanwhile, will continue in her roles as principal financial officer.
