Secaucus-based Goya Foods today named Andy Unanue, 33, as its chief operating officer. He was previously vice president and general manager of the company. As chief operating officer, he will oversee the daily operations of Goya”s U.S business.
The appointment reinforces the management”s commitment to maintain family ownership of the company. Unanue, who has worked at Goya for more than a decade, is the son of chairman and CEO Joseph A. Unanue. He assumes the position following the death of his older brother, Joseph. F. Unanue.
Andy Unanue began his career working at Goya”s Miami office and was soon transferred to Goya de Puerto Rico. He transferred to the Secaucus headquarters in 1993, where he managed all purchasing, inventory maintenance and special projects for the Northeast United States. In 1995, he moved to the Dominican Republic and was appointed president of Goya de Santo Domingo, one of Goya”s manufacturing and distribution hubs in the Caribbean.
Unanue did his undergraduate work at the University of Miami and his graduate work at Thunderbird, The American Graduate School of International Management.
Goya Foods is America”s largest Hispanic-owned food company. The family owned company employs more than 2,500 workers and has revenues in excess of $685 million. It manufacturers, packages and distributes more than 1,000 food and beverage products, including canned and dry-packaged beans, rice and rice mixes, nectars, seasonings and Latin American specialties.
