Hudson County Community College President Christopher Reber is stepping down after eight years at the helm to take a new role leading Harrisburg University of Science and Technology.
The HCCC board announced the move April 22. His departure, set for June 30, marks the end of a tenure that began in 2018 and has included a series of national recognitions for both Reber as well as the school.
“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I want to thank Dr. Chris Reber for his dedicated leadership and eight years of service to Hudson County Community College,” said board Chair Jeanette Peña. “We are grateful for his many contributions and wish him continued success in his new position.”
Harrisburg University officials pointed to Reber’s track record as a key reason for the hire.
Michael Fiaschetti, chair of the Harrisburg University board, said Reber’s experience and “his undeniable energy and enthusiasm leave no doubt in my mind that HU’s future is in capable hands.”
During his time in Jersey City, the college picked up several high-profile honors, including the 2024 Bellwether Legacy Award for its Hudson Scholars program. Reber was also named Community College CEO of the Year by
The American Association of Community Colleges also named Reber Community College CEO of the Year in 2024. He took home Executive of the Year honors from the New Jersey Business & Industry Association (NJBIA) in 2025. Additionally, NJBIZ has featured Reber on Education Power Lists.
In announcing his resignation to the HCCC community, Reber wrote: “It has been the honor of my life and career to work side by side with all of you! I will always love Hudson County Community College and its people.”

He continued, “Thank you for calling and entrusting me to serve you over these last eight years. Together, we have provided transformative opportunities that change lives. In the years ahead, these outcomes will continue to further grow and blossom through the continuing unwavering and caring engagement of everyone in this inspirational college. I wish the HCCC family much continued success! Hudson is Home!”
Officials at Harrisburg University said Reber’s leadership style and background stood out during the search process.
“All of us were impressed by Dr. Reber’s breadth of experience, his obvious passion for student success, his record of building partnerships with business and employers, and his commitment to our mission – qualities that make him the leader HU needs at this pivotal time,” said trustee Tim Weston, who co-chaired the presidential selection committee.
HCCC did not immediately release details about who will succeed Reber.
