Integra LifeSciences Buys France' Satelec Medical

Plainsboro-based Integra LifeSciences Holdings (Nasdaq: IART) said on Thursday it has acquired France”s Satelec Medical, a subsidiary of the Satelec-Pierre Rolland group, for $3.6 million in cash.

Satelec Medical manufactures and markets the Dissectron ultrasonic surgical aspirator console and a broad line of related handpieces. Dissectron has a U.S. FDA clearance for neurosurgical applications and CE Mark Certification in the European Union. It had revenues of $1.5 million in 2000.

The acquisition is a significant step in the expansion of Integra”s European operations, following its recent purchase of GMSmbH, the German manufacturer of the Licox Brain Tissue Oxygen Monitoring System.

Satelec-Pierre Rolland will continue to manufacture Dissectron until production is transferred to Integra”s Selector Integra Ultrasonic Aspirator manufacturing facility in Andover, England. Satelec-Pierre Rolland will also provide certain administrative and logistics services to Integra in France for a period of time following the acquisition.

Integra LifeSciences Holdings, formerly known as Integra LifeSciences Corporation, develops, manufactures and markets medical devices, implants and biomaterials primarily used in the treatment of burns and skin defects, spinal and cranial disorders, orthopedics and other surgical applications. The company”s neurosurgical products division, Integra NeuroSciences, designs, manufactures and sells implants, devices and monitors used in neurosurgery, neurotrauma, and related critical care.
