Jersey Mike’s Subs is expanding its presence in Canada.
Scheduled to open Aug. 28 in Ontario, the shop will be the Manasquan-based sandwich chain’s first of 300 outposts expected to launch by 2034 in the Great White North.
Located about 20 miles north of Toronto in Markham, the restaurant will celebrate with a special fundraiser through Sept. 1 to benefit Make-A-Wish Canada.
The debut comes nearly nine months after Jersey Mike’s announced its was partnering with Redberry, one of Canada’s largest restaurant operators, to grow its international footprint. The upcoming locations will be a mix of Redberry-owned and -operated units and franchise-supported stores, Jersey Mike’s has said.
Headquartered in Ontario, Redberry’s 180-plus unit portfolio includes Canadian locations under the Burger King and Taco Bell brands. Following its agreement with Jersey Mike’s, Redberry will have more than 600 restaurants in its fold.
Since January, Redberry has purchased and remodeled the only Jersey Mike’s restaurants in Ontario – a seven-year-old location in Kitchener and a six-year-old spot in London. During Jersey Mike’s Month of Giving in March, the two stores raised $12,000 for Make-A-Wish Canada.
By the end of the year, Redberry plans to open additional locations in the Toronto metropolitan region including York Mills, Union Station, Brantford, Pickering and Guelph. Between the planned restaurants and Markham, Redberry said the sites will employ nearly 100 workers.
Redberry CEO Ken Otto said his company is excited to introduce the chain to the area.
“This is Redberry’s first new Jersey Mike’s location to open in Canada and we can’t wait to share this iconic brand with our new neighbors,” he said.
Founded in 1956, Jersey Mike’s started out a small sandwich shop in Point Pleasant. Now, it is one of the fastest-growing quick service restaurants in the U.S. Jersey Mike’s has more than 4,000 locations open and in development.
