Jersey Mike’s Subs is going international in a big way.

The popular Manasquan-based sandwich chain announced Jan. 17 it is partnering with Redberry, one of Canada’s largest restaurant operators, to open 300 Jersey Mikes shops across the Great White North by 2034.

The upcoming locations will be a mix of Redberry-owned and -operated units and -supported stores, Jersey Mike’s said.

Openings will begin this year, with Redberry set to purchase and remodel the only two Jersey Mike’s restaurants in Canada: a seven-year-old location in Kitchener and a six-year-old outpost in London, Ontario. The operator will also launch five new Jersey Mike’s stores across the province in coming months.

Jersey Mike’s founder and CEO Peter Cancro said his brand is proud to partner with Redberry, commenting, “Their extensive history and reputation in the restaurant business are second to none.”

“Also critical to our company is that they share the same culture and mission statement: to give and make a difference. They are committed to their team members and their local communities,” Cancro said.

Headquartered in Ontario, Redberry’s 180-plus restaurant portfolio includes Canadian locations under the Burger King and Taco Bell brands. Following its agreement with Jersey Mike’s, Redberry will have more than 600 restaurants in its fold.

Ken Otto, chief executive officer of Redberry, commented, “We’re thrilled that entrusted us with bringing their iconic brand to Canada. We resonated strongly with their culture, product, and mission, and are excited to ‘Make it Happen’ for both Jersey Mike’s and their Canadian fans.”

“In addition to building our own Jersey Mike’s, growth will be accelerated by way of supporting other franchisees to join the Jersey Mike’s story in every province across Canada,” Otto added.

Founded in 1956, Jersey Mike’s started out a small sandwich shop in Point Pleasant and is now one of the fastest-growing quick service restaurants in the U.S., with more than 3,000 locations.

The agreement with Redberry comes less than a year after Jersey Mike’s made its debut in Alaska, giving it a presence in all 50 states.

Across its footprint, philanthropy remains a priority for Jersey Mike’s, as each store regularly partners with local charitable organizations as a way to give back.

Since 2010, Jersey Mike’s locations throughout the country have donated more than $110 million for charity. In 2023 alone, the chain collected a record-breaking $21 million on behalf of more than 200 nonprofits, such as food banks and hospitals, during its annual Month of Giving campaign.

At Redberry, outreach is also part of the mission. The company has contributed more than $1 million to support and uplift the communities it serves. Additionally, Redberry sponsors a variety of local initiatives and is an active participant in YMCA and university cooperative programs that offer jobs and career training.
