For the seventh year, Newsweek has unveiled its list of America’s Best Residential Addiction Treatment Centers.
Released Aug. 13, the 2026 ranking recognizes 440 top residential addiction treatment centers across the U.S. The compilation includes 10 facilities in New Jersey.
The publication noted these “centers provide critical, around-the-clock care for individuals facing substance use disorders, trauma and complex mental health challenges.”
Newsweek partnered with data analysis firm Statista to determine the findings. The rankings were based on:
Newsweek said residential programs usually require a minimum residency of 30 days. The publication did not include facilities offering only outpatient or short-term services.
The list covers the 25 states with the highest number of addiction treatment centers, based on data from the SAMHSA. Facilities were ranked by state.

According to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services – a database used by the SAMHSA – and American Addiction Centers, there are more than 50 residential addiction treatment centers in New Jersey.
“Recovery from addiction is rarely a straight path, but access to the right treatment can make a profound difference,” Newsweek Health Care Editor Alexis Kayser said in a statement accompanying the list. “The nation’s leading residential treatment centers combine scientific expertise with compassionate care to help patients build healthier futures.”
