Jersey Mike’s names new general counsel

Jersey Mike’s Subs has a new and vice president.

Follwing her promotion, Jamie Kapalko is responsible for overseeing all legal affairs including corporate contracts and regulatory compliance, the Manasquan-based sandwich chain said in a May 23 press release.

Kapalko joined the company in 2015 as an associate general counsel and most recently served as deputy general counsel. Prior to Jersey Mike’s, she was an associate at Roseland-headquartered law firm Lowenstein Sandler LLP, where she worked with startup businesses.

A Belmar native, Kapalko received her undergraduate degree from Villanova University and her law degree from Harvard Law School.

According to , she succeeds John Gelson, who will remain with the company as vice president and senior counsel.

Founded in 1956, Jersey Mike’s started out a small sandwich shop in Point Pleasant and is now one of the fastest-growing quick service restaurants in the U.S., with more than 3,000 locations.

According to Jersey Mike’s, Kapalko “has played an important role” in the expansion effort and “was an integral part” of the team behind the company’s plans to go international. Earlier this year, Jersey Mike’s announced an agreement with one of Canada’s largest restaurant operators to open 300 shops across the Great White North by 2034.
