Through Oct. 31, customers using the Manasquan-based sandwich chain’s app will have the option to round up their purchase to the nearest dollar or donate up to $5 when placing their order.

Founded in 1989 by Anthony Kennedy Shriver, Best Buddies strives to create opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, leadership development and inclusive living for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

With nearly 3,000 chapters worldwide, Best Buddies’ programs serve more than 1.3 million people, helping them secure rewarding jobs, live independently and make lifelong friendships.

Shriver – the sister of journalist Maria Shriver and nephew of President John F. Kennedy – said the organization “is excited about this new partnership and incredibly grateful” for Jersey Mike’s support of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

generous contributions and commitment to amplifying awareness about our mission will undoubtedly help Best Buddies create more life-changing friendships, job placements, leadership training and inclusive living opportunities for our program participants.”

To promote the initiative, Jersey Mike’s is also rolling out a nationwide ad campaign featuring several Best Buddies participants.

The partnership coincides with National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), which aims to celebrate employees with intellectual disabilities, as well as encourage businesses to adopt hiring practices that are inclusive of this untapped talent pool.
