The retail lineup at waterfront community is growing.

In a May 9 press release, LeFrak, the developer behind the transformation of Newport, and the Newport Associates Development Co. announced signing eight retail leases in recent months.

The new agreements total 27,000 square feet and span multiple buildings in the live-work-play neighborhood.

Newport’s newest tenants:
  • Dunhuang Food – a New York City Chinese spot that opened this spring
  • Efi’s Gyro – a Greek eatery from Morristown that will launch next month
  • Solaz – a new Mediterranean restaurant & bar with golf simulator suites expected to open in 2025
  • Roast’d Coffee – a Fort Lee-based coffee chain that made its Hudson County debut this past winter
  • Blue Anchor Bar and Kitchen – a seafood restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating slated to open this summer

Boutique recreation studio PingPong, high-end dog spa Pawsome and Stylebegin Barbershop also took spaces at Newport, LeFrak said.

A destination

Ray Kawas, director of commercial for LeFrak, commented, “Newport continues to be a prime destination for shopping, dining and entertainment in one of the nation’s most successful masterplanned communities.”

“We pride ourselves on bringing national, regional and local businesses into our retail spaces, as our true downtown experience wouldn’t be the same without a great mix of both established and emerging concepts. We’re thrilled that tenants like PingPod, Roast’d Coffee and Efi’s Gyro recognize the value of establishing a footprint in this vibrant, thriving neighborhood,” Kawas said.

Spanning 600 acres along the Hudson River, Newport consists of 15 residential buildings and eight state-of-the-art office towers that provide 8 million square feet of space for major companies.

In addition to waterfront and skyline views and easy access to New York City, Newport is sought for its lifestyle amenities. That includes the sports and wellness offerings at Newport Swim & Fitness, shopping at Newport Centre Mall and The Newport River Market, recreation at Newport Green and year-round community programming.

The new lease signings come as LeFrak continues to add engaging offerings for the community, like seasonal pickleball courts and the annual Newport Skates ice rink pop-up. It also recently introduced a partnership with Envoy. The sustainability-oriented electric vehicle-sharing platform provides Newport residents with exclusive car-sharing benefits, such as access to a dedicated Tesla fleet located on-site in Newport.
