Coming at a time of transition for Marcum, Jo Anna Fellon assumed the role of office managing partner for the accounting firm’s New Jersey operations in East Hanover, effective Oct. 1.
A seasoned tax partner and the national leader of Marcum‘s Private Client Services practice, Fellon also holds the position of office tax service line partner-in-charge for East Hanover, according to the firm’s Tuesday announcement.
Her appointment coincides with Marcum’s move from East Hanover to a new office at 340 Mount Kemble Ave. in Morristown later this month.
Fellon succeeds Chris Smith in the role. After 30 years in the industry, the NJBIZ Power list leader intends to retire. Extending its gratitude and best wishes, Marcum highlighted Smith’s legacy of leadership as well as a commitment to his clients and the firm.
Fellon’s tenure with Marcum stretches 14 years. Throughout, the firm said she has demonstrated a remarkable ability to craft innovative tax strategies, maximize philanthropic gifting and manage wealth transfers for clients. Her experience includes exploring alternative investments and restructuring family offices for enhanced efficiency, Marcum said.
Additionally, the respected educator has led numerous internal and external technical tax seminars. In 2022, NJBIZ recognized Fellon as part of the Best 50 Women in Business awards program.
In a statement, Fellon expressed enthusiasm for her new position. “I am thrilled to take on this additional leadership role at Marcum as we establish our new roots in Morristown next month. With the accounting profession continuously evolving, I’ll eagerly collaborate with my colleagues to usher in a new era of growth and opportunity for this office. I am excited to lead our talented team into the future and contribute to our ongoing success.”
Marcum told NJBIZ it will make the move to Morristown Oct. 28. The new office will house more than 90 professionals. Additionally, Marcum said the location will serve as a “significant” office within the New York Metro region. The firm said the Morris County location will provide space to collaborate as a national practice.
New York-based Marcum is in the midst of a merger that will add its non-attest business to CBIZ. Announced in the summer, the $2.3 billion cash-and-stock deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter. Throughout the state, Marcum has five offices; CBIZ has nine.
