Mondelez Global is voluntarily recalling two varieties of its Belvita Breakfast Sandwich biscuits in the U.S. over possible undeclared allergens in the products.
In a July 3 press release, the snack food company’s North American headquarters in East Hanover said the impacted products sold at stores nationwide may contain undeclared peanuts resulting from cross-contact on its single manufacturing line.
According to Mondelez, the impacted flavors – Cinnamon Brown Sugar with Vanilla Crème and Dark Chocolate Crème – have a “best when used by” date prior to Feb. 25, 2024, and come in a range of package sizes.
In announcing the recall, the company said it was first made aware of the issue during an internal manufacturing inspection that revealed the potential presence of peanut protein residue on the line used to make the biscuits.
No other Belvita products, or markets outside the U.S., are included in or affected by the recall, the company said.
As of now, there have been three unconfirmed reports of possible allergic reactions related to the products, according to Mondelez.
Recalled products should not be consumed by individuals with peanut allergies and should be discarded, the company said.
Consumers can call 1-855-535-5948, 24 hours a day, for more information about the recall, said Mondelez, with consumer relations employees available Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
