More than 150 students from nine New Jersey high schools got a firsthand look at aviation careers during Morristown Airport‘s fourth annual High School Aviation Day.
The event connects students with industry professionals and hands-on demonstrations. Participants came from Roxbury, Ridgefield Park, Mountain Lakes, Morris Hills, Morris Knolls, Manville, Hoboken and Boonton as well as Egg Harbor Township high schools.
The operator of Morristown Airport DM Airports Ltd. hosted the April 30 program. Held in a hangar on the airfield, it brought together aviation companies, educators and public officials. The event served as a showcase for career pathways ranging from flight operations to emerging technologies like drones.
“We’re proud to offer the next generation of aviation professionals a chance to learn about the industry through our High School Aviation Day,” said Darren Large, director of operations & facilities at the airport.
Large organized the annual event. He said it helps “students see firsthand and hear from experts about a career in aviation. Our goal is to help them learn more about aviation and see that their dreams are achievable.”
Many of these students are involved in aviation clubs or already considering careers in the field.
Attendees interacted with representatives from major employers including airlines, training schools and infrastructure providers. Meanwhile, Warren County Community College highlighted its drone program with a live demonstration. Local officials framed the event as part of a broader workforce development effort.
“This initiative reflects my mission to strengthen workforce development and inspire young people to pursue careers beyond what they know,” said Assemblywoman Aura Dunn, R-25th District. “Because exposure matters, and I am grateful to the educators and industry leaders who made this opportunity possible.”
Morristown Councilman Chris Russo also emphasized the value of early exposure.

“I’m glad to be with students again this year to speak about the wonderful opportunities in aviation that are available to them right in their backyard,” he said. “Morristown Airport’s aviation day offers an opportunity for students to explore their passions and learn about flying — discovering opportunities that many of us didn’t know existed at a young age.”
