A major innovation project in marked a milestone May 30.

Officials gathered in Egg Harbor Township for the and beam-signing ceremony of Building No. 2 at the National Aerospace Research & Technology Park.

As NJBIZ has reported, the 40,000-square-foot facility will house an aerospace-focused Strategic Innovation Center (SIC). The New Jersey Economic Development Authority’s Program partially funded the project with an $8.6 million investment.

The project features a collaboration between NARTP, Atlantic County, the (ACIA), the Atlantic County Economic Alliance (ACEA), the and the U.S. Economic Development Administration (USEDA).

Officials say that, once complete, the facility will offer state-of-the-art space for companies and organizations aligned with aerospace research and development, which will further strengthen and solidify South Jersey’s role as a nationally recognized research hub.

NARTP President and CEO Howard Kyle said this moment represents more than steel and structure. “It represents progress, partnership, and the vision of creating a world-class ecosystem for aerospace innovation right here in South Jersey,” said Kyle.

‘This is our future’

Before hoisting it on to the facility, officials, stakeholders and guests at the ceremony signed the ceremonial final beam.

“This is our future – our kids are going to want to stay here,” said Atlantic County Executive Dennis Levinson. “We are changing the academic curriculums in the region. We will have an educated workforce; we have to teach to the need.”

“Building No. 2 will provide critical space for startups, research institutions, and global leaders in aerospace to collaborate, innovate, and grow,” said Kyle.

Sen. Vince Polistina, R-2nd District, represents the area. He said this project reflects a mission to diversify the local economy beyond gaming and tourism. He also stressed education is the key.

“We are developing a pipeline for students to be educated here, trained here, and have great opportunities here at the park and the FAA [Federal Aviation Administration] for long-term high-paying jobs.”
