New Jersey is home to a number of physician groups, spanning decades of establishment and hundreds of locations across the state.
The oldest group on record is Holy Name, founded in 1925 and based in Teaneck. Summit Health follows, with roots going back to 1929 in Berkeley Heights. On the other end of the timeline, Atlantic Medical Group launched in 2015 out of Morristown.
In terms of reach, Atlantic Medical Group operates with more than 1,000 doctors, nurse practitioners and physician assistants. The organization spans over 300 locations throughout northern and central New Jersey and northeast Pennsylvania. Englewood Health Physician Network covers more than 100 locations across six counties in northern New Jersey and Rockland County.
Several groups concentrate on primary and specialty care. Combined Medical Group, RWJBarnabas Health and Rutgers Health, headquartered in West Orange, operates as a member of RWJBarnabas Health.
ID Care PA, based in Hillsborough since 1997, focuses on infectious diseases, including travel medicine, wound care, and antimicrobial stewardship — a concentration not found among other groups on the list.
Virtua Health, founded in 1998, operates five hospitals, seven emergency departments, and seven urgent care centers, in addition to more than 280 locations across New Jersey.
