This month, New Jersey American Water kicked off a total of $8.4 million in infrastructure projects across Atlantic, Burlington, Camden and Union counties, the Camden-based utility announced May 23.
All projects ]include replacing aging water lines, fire hydrants and utility-owned service lines as well as any customer-owned lead or galvanized service line as part of a statewide initiative to remove this type of equipment by 2031.
The work is part of New Jersey American Water‘s multimillion-dollar initiative to upgrade water infrastructure in more than 100 communities across the Garden State.
All project timelines are subject to change based on factors such as weather and supply availability.
A crew from Pioneer Pipe Contractors Inc. will replace approximately 1,600 feet of aging water main on the border of Galloway and Egg Harbor City, according to NJ American Water. The $500,000 project will take place along Aloe Street from South Chicago Avenue to South Philadelphia Avenue.
Work is expected to be done in about two months, with final street restorations to be completed in late summer or early fall of this year.
Pioneer Pipe Contractors began work in mid-May replacing approximately 1.5 miles of aging water main in Hainesport and Haddonfield. This $4.7 million project is expected to be completed in about three months. Final street restorations will be completed in late summer or early fall.
The following streets will be affected; the entire length of the road will undergo work unless otherwise noted:
Another NJ American Water contractor, CRJ Contracting, is replacing approximately 3,200 feet of aging water main along South Street/County Road 647 from Springfield Avenue to Central Avenue in New Providence. The $3.2 million project expects to wrap up within three months. Final street restorations will be completed in fall of 2024.
