A past NJBIZ Forty Under 40 winner, General Counsel Kari Cohen is making moves within the New York Red Bulls organization.
The Harrison-based club announced Cohen’s promotion to chief administrative officer and general counsel this week. In the new role, she leads the club’s legal team and oversees the human resources department.
In a statement, New York Red Bulls President Marc de Grandpre shared his excitement over what he characterized as a “well-deserved” promotion. “During her four years with the Club, Kari has continually displayed great leadership in our legal affairs, while positively steering our team’s culture and strategic direction,” he said.
Cohen has also been recognized as a Sports Business Journal “Game Changer.” Before joining the Red Bulls in 2020, she was vice president and deputy general counsel at BSE Global. The company is parent to the Brooklyn Nets and Barclays Center.
“I look forward to expanding my role with the New York Red Bulls,” Cohen said in a statement. “Throughout my tenure with the Club, I’ve had the prvielege of collaborating with an exceptional team of professionals dedicated to advancing our beloved sport, both on a local and global scale.
“I am excited to continue building upon that work,” she added.
The Red Bulls also introduced two new hires.
Patricia Yanez joins as director of marketing while Claire Czerniuk is director of game presentation, entertainment and field marketing.
Yanez will oversee marketing for the club from strategy through execution. That includes brand and digital marketing as well as merchandise and social media. She previously spent over 12 years with the Disney Media & Entertainment Division and ESPN Global Film & Original Content Department. Meanwhile, Czerniuk’s oversight will match her title accordingly. Her experience includes more than a decade working with several NBA and NHL teams.
All the moves coincide with the start of the Red Bull’s 2024 season, which also ushered in new features and initiatives for the team and in Harrison.
The Red Bulls opened their new season with an optimistic approach, on and off the field. Read more here from the March 11 issue of NJBIZ.
