Jenkinson’s Boardwalk unveiled a red, white and blue-themed roller coaster just in time for America’s 250th birthday.
Known as Patriot’s Run, the family-friendly attraction features conventional trains, a classic lift and “unbelievable views at the top of the beach and the ocean,” the Point Pleasant amusement park operator said.
Patriot’s Run represents one of the largest ride investments in the park’s 98-year history. The ride stands nearly 40 feet tall and features more than 1,100 feet of track.
Italy-based SBF VISA manufactured Patriot’s Run. The trains, track and station scenery were all painted at the factory before making the journey to Point Pleasant Beach, Jenkinson’s said.
The new coaster replaces the longtime fan favorite Tidal Wave.
The design of Patriot’s Run also serves as a nod to the Flitzer, a beloved coaster that once occupied the same spot before the Tidal Wave, Jenkinson’s said.
Of the 30 attractions at Jenkinson’s, the majority are designed with younger children and families in mind, the park said. However, Patriot’s Run “marks a new chapter by introducing an attraction that appeals to a more adventurous audience while still remaining family-oriented and accessible for riders of different ages,” according to the operator.
The new attraction reaches speeds of approximately 25 miles per hour, the park said.
Patriot’s Run officially rolled into action May 29, said Jenkinson’s Marketing and Brand Manager Alex Taylor.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the ride is planned as part of a July 16 event celebrating America’s 250th anniversary. The festivities will also include entertainment, promotions, special offers and Jenkinson’s Thursday night fireworks display on the beach.
