  • The Berkeley College School of Health Studies honored a new generation of health care heroes entering the workforce at a pinning ceremony for its nursing graduates April 12 at Berkeley College in Woodland Park. The ceremony recognized 27 graduates of the College’s Licensed Practical Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (LPN to BSN) and Practical Nurse (PN) programs. Eleven students also received nominations for the DAISY Award, a program that recognizes nurses for their care and compassion. Recipients included Yara Hassan of East Rutherford and Josette Andre of Union.<br />

  • The Wizard of Menlo Park, Thomas Edison was among the first to be inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame in 2008. Now, he is among the first to arrive at the new Hall of Fame home, represented by his Model T, a gift from Henry Ford. On April 16, the antique car was exhibited during a ceremony at the Thomas Edison National Historical Park in West Orange, before making its final journey. When the NJHOF Entertainment and Learning Center opens in June at American Dream, the auto will serve as the centerpiece for a simulated ride to the moon for visitors.<br />

  • New Jersey American Water recently launched its fourth annual Water UP! – Water Utility Pipeline – training program. The paid, nine-week workforce development program for adults is done in partnership with Rowan College of South Jersey. The training program, which runs March 25-May 30, will equip participants with hands-on water utility and essential business training necessary to join the water and wastewater utility industry upon graduation.<br />

  • Bergen New Bridge Medical Center recently hosted its first Health Equity Partnership Forum, which brought together nonprofits and county agencies to collaborate on advancing health equity in Bergen County and across the state. Organizations in attendance included: Greater Bergen Community Action, Habitat for Humanity of Bergen County, United Way of Bergen County, YWCA of Northern New Jersey, The Bright Side Family, BVMI, Integrity House, Women’s Rights Information Center, NJ4S and the Bergen County Office of Food Security.<br />
