Leaders discuss future of biotech at Princeton roundtable

NJBIZ was on the scene as a group of key leaders and stakeholders gathered Friday for a timely discussion about the sector.

The New Jersey Biotechnology Roundtable took place Aug. 1 at the Carl A. Fields Center at . The National Security Commission on Emerging Biotechnology (NSCEB), along with Amicus Therapeutics, BioNJ and Princeton’s Omenn-Darling Bioengineering Institute organized the event.

It brought together a slew of commissioners, lawmakers, government officials, leaders from the state’s biotech sector, students (who had posters on display) and others.

Attendees discussed:

  • The state of the industry and challenges – especially amid a rash of changes at the federal level
  • Ideas on how to best tackle those challenges
  • Findings from of the recent “Charting the Future of Biotechnology” report, compiled by the NSCEB and available here

The roundtable also included remarks from several speakers, as well as a full panel discussion. Topics included:

  • Ensuring the U.S. leads in cutting-edge biotechnology applications – especially AI tools that can help accelerate innovation areas ranging from therapeutics to energy and advanced materials
  • Leaning into U.S. advantages in venture capital, medical research and as a top destination for biotech talent
