ProBio opens cell, gene therapy hub in Hopewell

A global leader in cell and recently planted its flag here in the Garden State.

ProBio cut the ribbon on its new flagship Cell and Gene Therapy Center of Excellence at the in June 27.

A number of company leaders, government officials, life sciences stakeholders and more were on-hand for the ribbon cutting. “This is not just a new facility,” said CEO Allen Guo. “It is a beacon of hope for patients waiting for cures.”

Key things to know:

  • 128,000-square-foot Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) facility
  • Built for manufacturing high-quality plasmid DNA and viral vectors, including adeno-associated virus and lentiviral vector platforms
  • Site equipped to support clinical-stage development, process-development, and scale-up for cell and gene therapy programs
  • Brings more than 110 high-skilled jobs to New Jersey
  • GMP AAV manufacturing set to launch by third quarter 2025; GMP LVV services slated for Q1 2026
  • Serves as the company’s North American hub

ProBio says the opening of this facility reflects its dedication to accelerating the delivery of transformative medicines.

“Opening the Hopewell center is a milestone in ProBio’s global expansion and underscores our mission to support biopharma innovators with high-quality, responsive manufacturing solutions,” said Guo.

“The opening of ProBio, a state-of-the-art fully integrated end-to-end Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization, will be a significant enhancement to the cell and gene biologics development and ecosystem, anchoring New Jersey as a leader in the field,” said John Coelho, senior advisor, Life Sciences, New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA).

“The potential to support production for global clinical trial registrations and close proximity to leading precision medical centers will enable faster access of breakthrough medicines to patients,” Coelho added.

Hopewell Mayor Courtney Peters-Manning gave the company a warm welcome to the community.
