Rider University is paying tribute to outgoing President Gregory Dell’Omo.

As NJBIZ has reported, Dell’Omo, Rider’s seventh president, announced his intention to retire in September 2024. Having held the role since 2015, John Loyack will succeed him, taking the helm July 7.

To recognize Dell’Omo’s service leading the -based university – as well as his passionate support of Rider Athletics – the board of trustees announced June 30 the dedication of the athletic complex in his name: The Gregory G. Dell’Omo Athletic Complex.

“Your name will greet generations of student athletes as they train, compete, and continue to bring home championships,” said Joan Mazzotti, chair of the board, during an event to unveil the naming.

More about The Gregory G. Dell’Omo Athletic Complex:
  • Encompasses the school’s baseball and softball fields, recreational field, track and field complex, and turf field — home to the men’s and women’s soccer, field hockey and women’s lacrosse teams
  • 13 of Rider’s 21 Division I sports programs will utilize the complex
  • Dell’Omo and his wife, Polly, frequently attend games, cheering on the Broncs
  • Under Dell’Omo’s leadership, Rider has secured:
    • 40 conference championships
    • Produced 18 All-Americans
    • Won two consecutive Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Men’s Commissioner’s Cups, and more
  • Over the past 10 years, Rider has made a number of additions and renovations to its athletic facilities, such as construction of Jason Thompson ’08 Court in the basketball practice facility and Michael P. Brady Track Operations Building & Pavilion; as well as updates to the Gary Taylor Wrestling Center and Richard A. Coppola Pool

Rider Athletic Director Don Harnum said the naming of the outdoor complex for Dell’Omo could not be more appropriate.

“Greg loves sports, has been extremely supportive of Rider Athletics during his tenure and has witnessed a plethora of Bronc victories in that part of the campus,” said Harnum. “This is a very deserving honor and recognition.”
