Saker ShopRites set to relocate Ocean County store (updated)

Saker ShopRites is preparing to launch a brand-new ShopRite in Ocean County.

Located at 733 Route 72 W. Manahawkin, the 110,000-square-foot supermarket is scheduled to open Feb. 4, a company spokesperson confirmed.

After a 7 a.m. ribbon cutting ceremony, ShopRite will give special grocery bags filled with product samples and coupons to the first 200 customers in line. The celebration will also feature in-store sampling, food trucks and other surprises, according to Saker.

Ahead of the grand opening, Saker ShopRites President and CEO Richard Saker said, “With this new Manahawkin location, we’re proud to offer a fresh, modern store filled with amenities that make shopping easier and more enjoyable. From locally sourced products and prepared foods to world-class services, this store reflects our promise to deliver quality and care to every customer who walks through our doors.”

At , ShopRite takes over a space that has been vacant since Kmart closed in 2017.

The upcoming store will replace an existing 70,000-square-foot ShopRite located less than a mile away at Stafford Square Mall.

The current store is also among the seven ShopRite that the Saker family acquired in 2021 from the Perlmutter family. Both grocers were also among the first members of

With a footprint that includes 40 across Monmouth, Ocean, Somerset, Middlesex, Mercer and Somerset counties, the fifth-generation, family-owned business is one of the largest supermarket operators in New Jersey. It’s also the biggest stakeholder in Keasbey-based Wakefern.

And, its workforce of 10,255 strong just placed the Holmdel-headquartered company at the top of NJBIZ’s ranking of family-owned businesses by number of workers.

The grand opening comes about two years after Saker ShopRites purchased Manahawkin Commons for a reported $36.5 million from Baltimore-based privately held commercial real estate investment firm MCB Real Estate LLC.

Other tenants at the 320,000-square-foot shopping center include Michaels, Staples and T.J. Maxx.

It’s not known who will move into ShopRite’s space at Stafford Square Mall. Pasbjerg Development Co., the plaza’s broker, has the store listed as available in February.
