Following last year’s addition of a dedicated kosher market, Village Super Market Inc. is unveiling more improvements at its ShopRite supermarket in Livingston.
The family-owned and operated grocer said it recently completed a multimillion dollar renovation that added new décor and expanded departments at the 70,000-square-foot store.
Upgraded areas include a certified kosher bakery under the supervision of the Vaad Harabonim of MetroWest in Livingston, an international cheese department, prepared foods department and produce department.
During the first phase of work completed in November 2025, ShopRite of Livingston increased its kosher offerings to span more than 1,500 items. It also redesigned the section to bring together kosher deli, prepared foods, meat, grocery, dairy, frozen and seafood into one convenient location for customers.
According to a spokesperson, the second phase of work began earlier this year. The store remained open throughout the renovation, they added.
Owned and operated by the Sumas family, Village Super Market is also a member of Keasbey-based co-op Wakefern Food Corp. Its footprint includes 30 ShopRite supermarkets in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Maryland, as well as seven specialty markets under the Gourmet Garage and Fairway Market brands in Manhattan.

Commenting on the updates in Livingston, store leadership said the project is part of Village Super Market’s “continued commitment to enhance the shopping experience and meeting the evolving needs of the community” by “expanding specialty offerings, improving convenience and delivering greater variety and quality across key fresh and prepared food departments.”
Village Super Market plans to celebrate the renovation with a May 18 ribbon-cutting ceremony alongside Livingston Mayor Shawn Klein, store employees, representatives from Vaad of MetroWest and the West Essex YMCA.
The 1 p.m. festivities will include presentation of a $5,000 donation to the West Essex YMCA from the Sumas Family Foundation.
There’s also a community event planned for May 17 that will feature:
