After undergoing a nine-month renovation, ShopRite of Belleville is unveiling a state-of-the-art remodel.

Designed to better meet the needs of shoppers, the Washington Avenue store now features an updated produce, bakery, seafood and prepared foods departments. It also boasts a “fresh, contemporary look” that includes new ceilings and floors as well as an exterior makeover, according to owner and operator LoCurcio Family Markets.

According to a spokesperson, the 60,000-square-foot store stayed open during the renovation process. LoCurcio celebrated the project’s completion with an Oct. 19 ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Commenting on the refresh in Belleville, the grocer said, “This transformation underscores the LoCurcio family’s ongoing commitment to the Belleville community and their dedication to providing customers with a modern, welcoming and high-quality shopping trip.”

It comes almost a year after the grocer finished a similar remodel of the ShopRite supermarket in Nutley.

The family-owned business began in 1953 when Vincent LoCurcio Sr. opened a superette in downtown Nutley. A year later, the grocer joined Keasbey-based retailer-owned co-op Wakefern Food Corp. His son, Vincent LoCurcio III, would later lead the business and play a key role in the Nutley community, according to Wakefern. Today, Vincent’s wife, Carol LoCurcio, and Vincent’s son, Joseph Frusteri, handle operations.

The family opened a second store, ShopRite of Belleville, in 2013. It acquired ShopRite of Kearny in 2023 after longtime operator Richard Tully retired from the supermarket business.
