Customers at several New Jersey ShopRite supermarkets may see a familiar face the next time they pick up a box of Cheerios.
This spring, associates from the chain’s locations across the Garden State are being featured on special edition boxes of the iconic cereal to recognize their efforts to fight hunger in their communities.
Sponsored in partnership with General Mills, the annual ShopRite Partners In Caring Cheerios Contest is a friendly competition each fall that challenges store workers to collect donations at checkout to help support food banks.
With 2022’s contest theme “Ending Hunger Together” serving as a backdrop, stores in several states where ShopRite operates raised more than $1 million.
As part of the prize, the top 52 fundraising stores are given the opportunity to select associates to be featured on limited edition Cheerios boxes that will be sold exclusively at ShopRite this spring. Additionally, those locations receive prize money to be donated to their local food charity of choice.
Winning stores in New Jersey include: ShopRite of Lodi, ShopRite of Metro Plaza (Jersey City), ShopRite of Ramsey, ShopRite of New Milford, ShopRite of Springfield, ShopRite of Union, ShopRite of Brookdale, ShopRite of Stirling, ShopRite of Hillsborough, ShopRite of Marmora, ShopRite of English Creek and ShopRite of Landis.
ShopRite Partners In Caring is a year-round, community-based, hunger-fighting initiative that works with more than 50 food industry manufacturers to provide $3 million annually to qualified charitable agencies in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania – all states where ShopRite operates.
Since its launch in 1999, the program has donated $62 million to more than 2,200 nonprofits, including emergency food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, childcare agencies, women’s shelters, senior citizen programs, drug rehab centers and afterschool programs.
In 2002, the ShopRite Partners In Caring Fund was established as a way to accept private donations to help fund those charitable endeavors.
