Salad-and-bowl chain Sweetgreen is opening its fifth location in New Jersey.
The Los Angeles, Calif.-based fast casual brand expects to launch a 2,646-square-foot restaurant at M Station East, a new mixed-use development in downtown Morristown, according to the property’s developer, SJP Properties, and landowner, Scotto Properties.
Founded 16 years ago in Washington state, Sweetgreen is known for its customizable bowls, salads and sides made from fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The chain has grown to over 150 locations nationwide, including Jersey City, Montclair, Shrewsbury and Hackensack, as well as a spot coming soon to Marlton.
According to SJP Properties, Sweetgreen marks the first retail lease at M Station East. Completed in July 2022, the six-story, 120,000-square-foot building is fully leased to accounting firm Deloitte, which relocated its corporate headquarters from Parsippany.
Work began last month on the second phase of the project, M Station West, which will become the new flagship New Jersey location for French health care company Sanofi after construction is finished in early 2025, SJP said. Sanofi announced earlier this year its 1,900 employees in Bridgewater would be transferred to Morristown.
In a statement, Alexander Erdos, senior vice president of leasing & marketing at SJP, said, “Sweetgreen’s arrival at M Station validates our hypothesis that nationally recognized brands will be attracted to the significant increase in daytime foot traffic and activity in the area generated by exceptional companies like Deloitte and Sanofi.”
Erdos went on to say, “This is a milestone for Morristown. Bringing high-caliber dining options and amenity retail to our projects is a key element of success. We think everyone at M Station as well as residents of Morristown will be thrilled to have Sweetgreen as a part of its rapidly evolving retail ecosystem.”
In addition to M Station, SJP and Scotto broke ground last year on a new 120,000-square-foot office and retail building along Speedwell Avenue that will be home to Valley Bank’s new headquarters. After the building’s expected completion in mid-2023, Valley will relocate from Wayne.
